Your Photos….

Do your photo’s ever stop you from making a scrapbook layout? Funny question isn’t it?   Sometimes, while being inspired by other people’s layouts, either in-house, magazines, blogs or friends layouts, we can actually become uninspired to complete our own pages, because of our photos. Sometimes we think that our happy snaps are just not right for scrapbooking.  I don’t know about you, but I get tired of seeing layouts in magazines etc with perfectly dressed and posed kids, taken with the best camera and at a great location. I look at  my photo’s taken with my cheap camera and think that they are not good enough to scrap! But that is not right. I  then remind myself why I scrapbook in the first place, and now I will remind you 🙂
Us scrapbookers scrap because first and foremost we want to capture the fun in the every day events of life, we want to leave a legacy for the next generations to treasure. We want to recorded our kids getting their first teeth, or riding their first bike, or opening gifts at Christmas, or just washing the dog. Or maybe you scrap your Grandchildren, or your Trips overseas, or maybe your pets. I want pics of my kids playing and smiling and laughing and having fun. I want  memories recorded, ones that make me smile and help me to  remember the precious years that go way to quickly.
So I pull out my trusted digital camera that can go wherever I go and I take happy snaps, sometimes they come out blurry and the kids are not framed correctly. Sometimes their clothes don’t match, sometimes I even cut off part of the body lol…..But that’s ok, they are my memories and deserve to be in my scrapbooks and I should feel proud. I know I will look back and remember those days, and that is what it is about.
So don’t look at your photos and disregard them because they are not perfect, perfect is just an illusion.  Capture the beauty you see through the lense, and whatever layout you make will be great. If it has your kids in it, they will think they are fantastic anyway just because they are the star attractions!
Take a look at this link (here) and check out this photographers own happy snaps….while they are picture perfect, they may still may make you smile and be happy to scrap anything!  His kids look like they are having so much fun!
Wishing you all a fantastic week!

International Talent

Good Evening!

There are many international designers who offer to come to local scrapbook stores and teach if you book and pay in advance. You may (or may not) have seen on a couple of blogs last night that 3 international designers have cancelled their trip to Perth due to a store in Perth not following through with their agreement.

An opportunity then presented itself that 2 that I spoke to would be able to come to Geraldton if I would like to book them. BUT there would be a minimum for classes and there are flights etc that need to be paid. So my question to you is, would you pay around $120 to be taught by an international artist?  The classes would be fuller than normal so you may not get as much help and assistance that you are used to, so personally I don’t think it would suit a beginner. One of the designers is absolutely brilliant in mixed media, and the other offers classes from Prima, Authentique and Pink Paisley.

Please e-mail me if you would be interested. Need to move fast as kits would need to be arranged and they would be leaving their home countries in a matter of weeks.

Shop Update

Good Morning!

Just thought I would give you a quick update of what is happening in our little shop.

It was a very busy day today with Scrapbook class in the morning (2 spaces still available in this class for the term) and then the Card Club this evening. Tomorrow we have our very popular kids class in the afternoon. Unfortunately for some this class is now fully booked till the end of the term. Contact me if you would like to be put on the waiting list for a Wednesday afternoon class. Once we have 8 on the list, the class will go ahead.

We where very fortunate this week to acquire 2 beautiful new cupboards. First the kids had to clean them for me 🙂

An afternoon of moving stock around and our shop looks even better – and we have been able to make some space for all the new CHA 2012 stock due to start arriving in the next week or so.

We also have a few new and exciting things planned for term 2. An e-mail will be going out today with more information.
There are a couple of new page kits up on the website too – only a couple of each so be quick if you would like to buy one.
Wishing everyone a great rest of the week!

CheeryLynn Flower Dies

Good Morning!

Only a couple of days left till Christmas – I can’t wait. This year we will be going to Mount Magnet to celebrate. We have been busy creating the classes for Term 1 and they are nearly finished. We also have an exciting January planned to fill the school holidays. More on those in my next post.

For the last couple of months we have been stocking CheeryLynn dies from the US. They are an innovative company with plenty of new releases every month.

A couple of weeks ago they released a selection of wonderful flower dies. With these dies you can make your own dimmenional flowers that look store bought easily.

Have a look at some work from their design team: here

These dies also cut easily through felt, paper, chipboard and more.

Have a look at this video for a demo.
We have all of the new flower Dies in store. The cutties cost $12.50, small rose $12.50, Medium Rose $14.50 and the large rose $16.50. If you are unable to come to our store but are interested in these dies feel free to either e-mail me on marijke@wholesalebrads.com or give me a call on 0408 913684

Sitting here in my office….

listening to the constant chatter happening in the classroom. Wonder how much work is being done? Might have to sneak out and take a couple of photos.

On the first Wednesday night of every month a group of ladies have booked out our classroom for their Card Club. They welcome any new people who would like to join in. It costs $20 and you receive a paper pad of your choice, 10 x A5 card, a sheet of card sketches and the use of all equipment in the shop. They bring food and drink and have a great time.

Would you like to do something similar with a group of your friends? Come in to the shop and let me know and we can schedule in a day that suits you every month. The class room is for hire even for a one of event.

Better get back to my invoicing….

Hope you have a great week!

Just a little update…..

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I haven’t blogged much, we have been very busy planning and preparing for the coming months. We have a Wonderful holiday programme nearly ready for release. There is something for everyone and for kids all ages in there.

There is a great little Christmas Party planned, VIP club and lots of other great things. make sure you sign up for our newsletter on the website to be the first in the know.

I’m off to bed now – had a very full day of business training today, and another one tomorrow. Even though we were told a lot of what I already knew (but didn’t do) I now have a few system ideas to put in place to achieve all that I want to in a more orderly way. Can’t wait till Thursday to put my new found enthusiasm in place.

wishing you all a wonderful week and thank you to all those who joined in our Facebook Sale.

Introducing Madame Boutique

Sorry for the delay! I have been meaning to do this post since last week but I still needed to print a photo of my Grandmother to stick on the layout. Finally did it today so here are the projects we have made:

First up the 2 layouts I created.

Sorry about the flash on the photos – that’s what you get when you take them at night! The photo is of my Oma on the day she turned 90 years old. She was given 90 red roses by my parents. All edges are distressed and papers are sewn on to the layout using gold thread.

Again sorry for the flash….I found the colours of madame Boutique where perfect for a men’s layout so I used the papers that don’t have any roses on it. Ths photo is of my father in 1962 in his favourite dressing gown – he still has it!

And here is the layout that Amber created using 2 full size sheets from madame Boutique as the background and the cut out doillies the rest of the layout was made using papers from the 6.25″ paper pad.

And last but definately not least are all the items Jenny created using only 8 sheets of paper, 2 speciality papers, sticker sheet, die cuts and the rub on. She used every single last scrap of paper! That’s a HUGE achievement in itself!!

I have been trying to load up all the photos but the internet / computer is not co-operating so I will finish loading Jenny’s projects tomorrow.

I’m a little Tea Pot

Hi, It’s Jen here.  Have you ever heard people talk about  BTP and wondered what they were talking about? The letters stand for “beyond the page”  A lot of people think Scrapbooking shops only deal with  papers and you only make page layouts, but there is so much more!
Kaiser have great craft projects, big and small that really take you beyond the page, and they are so much fun. My daughter and I love to do craft, any kind, we don’t care , as long as our hands are busy, we are happy. So over the next few weeks I thought I would share a few projects we have made together. I hope they inspire you to try something you may not have tried before, to be creative and give it a go. I have made gorgeous presents for friends, decorations for my home, albums for photos etc. Just when I think I have done enough, Kaiser bring out some more! Marijke has dozens of different projects in store. Have you seen the beautiful Bird cage she made? I must try one of them next 🙂
But firstly, I thought I would share this  cute little tea cup photo album. I decorated this one with the kaisercraft Lilac Avenue collection. It would be perfect for displaying photos from a kitchen tea party, afternoon tea with Grandma, or  a nice get together with friends, enjoying a cuppa together.
1.This is how the project starts.

2.Sand all sides

3.Paint around the edges and then cover with pretty paper

4. Dress it up a bit, add some bling and it is finished

5. Give it away and watch a big smile appear on someones face 🙂
