Who doesn’t love Kaiser Craft? They have now been around for over 21 years! It wasn’t always what it is today….grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and I will tell you the story of Kaiser Craft…..
Stephen Kaiser started a little part-time job in wood working to support his (in his own words) meat pie habit during high school. Then around 21 years ago while operating a joinery business, he was asked by his wife to manufacture some small wood products to sell in her craft store. Seeing a niche opportunity, Stephen soon expanded to manufacturing plastic stencils and added other products such as acrylic paint to the company’s core range. Before long, word spread, and the Kaisercraft brand was soon in demand among Bunnings and Spotlight stores Australia wide. (excerpt taken from the Kaiser website)
In 2005 Kaiser Craft changed direction and started bringing out Scrapbooking Products.After a while they had a great design team and their monthly releases started. They had 4 double sided papers in the collection + matching epoxy brads. Their core range also started expanding including paper flowers etc.

In July 2009 Q1 was released.
Q1 was very impressive. I must say this is when I really fell in love with Kaiser. I liked them before….but now I get excited everytime new collections are released as the Kasier designers NEVER disappoint. They are not always exactly to my taste….But that is because Kaiser has such an eclectic selection of collections – I am yet to find someone who doesn’t like any of them.
Kaiser only released 3 Q’s as it was too much for 1 month, and then you had such a long break in between releases.
2 collections are being released per month. Each collection includes 6 double sided heavy weight paper, 2 speciality papers, coloured rub ons, black rub ons, printed chipboard, die cuts, clear stamps, 6″ paper pad, journaling tags. Occasionally somthing may be added or subtracted to suit the collection being released. For example After 5 only had black rub ons.

The 1 thing Kaiser was always big on (and still is!) is wood items. There are so many to choose from. And all at a very affordable price. In fact I find all of Kaiser is very affordable. There are a group of ladies who have signed up with me to receive every new Kaiser release. They receive:
* 2 of each double sided paper * 1 each of the designer paper * all the matching embellishments (excludes 6×6 paper pad – this is an optional extra) the average cost of the kits are $50.00. (So $100 per month if you would like both) Let me know if you would like to sign up for the kits.
I get side tracked too easily…back to the wood. Kaiser’s wood products include bins, storage boxes, paper racks, albums, recipe stands, Christmas decorations and so much more!

Nearly forgot to mention the most important facts….they are an Australian company. All the workshop magazines are printed in Australia, and all the wood items are made in their own joinery. All other items are designed in Australia.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

I often get asked how did scrapbooking start….Scrapbooking has been around in some form or other for hundreds of years. But Scrapbooking as we know it today evolved from the very clever people at Creative Memories. Creative memory consultant soon got thousands of people interested in Scrapbooking, then other manufacturers and designers jumped in the wagon and the craft continually evolves and grows from there.

With the advent of affordable paper, precursors to modern scrapbooks became available to a wider array of people. Beginning in the 15th century, commonplace books, popular in England, emerged as a way to compile information that included recipes, quotes, letters, poems and more. Each commonplace book was unique to its creator’s particular interests. Friendship albums became popular in the 16th century. These albums were used much like modern day yearbooks, where friends or patrons would enter their names, titles and short texts or illustrations at the request of the album’s owner. These albums were often created as souvenirs of European tours and would contain local memorabilia including coats of arms or works of art commissioned by local artisans.[1] Starting in 1570, it became fashionable to incorporate colored plates depicting popular scenes such as Venetian costumes or Carnival scenes. The advent of modern photography began with the first permanent photograph created by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826.[5] Photography became available to an ever-widening population with the invention of George Eastman‘s paper photographs in the late 1880s and the mass production of the Kodak Brownie, a camera designed to be simple (and inexpensive) enough for a child, in 1900.[6] This allowed the average person to begin to incorporate photographs into their scrapbooks.
Old scrapbooks tended to have photos mounted with photomounting corners and perhaps notations of who was in a photo or where and when it was taken. They often included bits of memorabilia like newspaper clippings, letters, etc.

Hope everyone had a great ending to 2010 and have welcomed 2011. My husband is very excited as this is “his” year – his birthday is on the 20th Nov.
So to start the year off well, I am spending all day Monday updating my website. I have so many products to add….but when I went to add the cuttlebug folders yesterday I realised I have sold quite a lot of them already…so I guess a mini stock take is due first.
Kids classes are starting this week. A couple are already full, so come and see me if you would like to book any before your favourites are booked out.
Only 2 days till its New Year’s Eve. What are planning? As I do every year (and my dad does too) I make a whole lot of Oliebollen. They are a dutch tradition and eaten on New Year’s Eve / Day. As its a lot of work to make the dough etc I normally make way too many. Let me know if you would like some 🙂
Oliebollen translated means “olie” = oil “bollen” = balls, The most similar food here would be dougnuts. But instead of Cinnamon sugar we put icing sugar. There are also a couple of different varieties, with raisins or apple. Yummy!
During the winter months you will see lots of Oliebollen Kramen dotted around as seen in the below photos.
I had better add the ingredients to my shopping list so I don’t forget anything important (like yeast…)

Everyone has more than likely seen the news (although I haven’t as that is the kids dinner, bath & bed time) and the devastation that has happened just 470km north of us.
My parents won’t be able to come down for Christmas, which has already changed our mood / spirit. It just won’t be the same. Although I have spent many Christmas’s away from my parents in the past as I spent 5 years on a cruise ship…but this is the first time since I’ve had kids. Even when we went to Goa for Christmas my parent came along.
Anyway, South Perth Council is collecting money for the people of Carnavon who have lost their homes etc and you can donate via any Bank West branch. Every little bit helps!

I know I have been pretty slack with the blogging, but life got in the way 🙂
End of the year brings along extra busy days in the shop, end of year concerts, school parties, Day Care parties, work parties etc etc
School holidays are here, which means I don’t have to be out the door quite as early in the morning but I now do have a 6 year old shop assistant :). She loves it in the shop and if you come in, she is sure to show you all the new products and even demo some tools. She will make the perfect assistant when she is older.
The days have been getting warmer, or is it only because I spend the whole day in a nice cool shop that I get hit by the heat all the harder when leaving in the afternoon? (yes, we are now fully air conditioned!)
Anyway, enough idle chit chat – given a chance I could talk all day! (maybe why I love it in the shop so much?)
We have lots, and I mean lots planned for 2011….
To start off with we are holding an Open Day on Tuesday 28th December from 10am till 1pm. Come in and try out some tools, have some morning tea and create 3 cards for free. There will also be a sale, so come in and spend those gift vouchers a number of you will be lucky enough to receive.
On Tuesday, we will also have most of the Term 1 classes on display as well as all the kids classes for January. Making it easier for you when booking classes.
From next week the New Passport to Scrappiness will be available for purchase. (At the moment there is only a junior version, but the adult version will be available in the coming weeks.) What is it? I hear you ask…Kids will receive a stamp for every class attended, and for skills learnt to earn certificates and free gifts. More details at our open day.
Our Cricut Club will be up and running from 5th January. Its costs $50 per year to become a member, but as a member you can can borrow from our Cricut Library as many times as you like through out the year. You will also receive special Cricut discounts and challenges.
Starting in January, and then every 1st Tuesday of the month, we will have a new Scrap Challenge and a Card Challenge. Scrap Challenge Kits will cost $15 with over $20 worth of products in the kit, and the Card Challenge will cost $10 with over $13 worth of products inside. all challenge entries will be due by the 25th of every month, and voting will take place between the 25th and 1st Tuesday of the month. Prizes will vary monthly and be anounced at the same time kits become available.
Sorry but our website is out of date, there are approx. 400 products which I haven’t had a chance to load up yet, but this will updated over the Christmas break. And as we now have internet in store it will be continually updated as new products come in. (that’s the plan anyway 🙂 )
All classes held over the summer include either morning or afternoon tea. Schedule is available in store. Places have been filling, so please e-mail me or call in if you would like your son / daughter to do any. Prices start from $10. All layout classes have a boy option and a girl option.

Thank you for your understanding.The website will be open 24/7 though, and I can deliver orders on Mondays and Tuesday afternoons.
Finally I would like to thank everyone for making the first 3 months of our shop being open a fabulous 3 months. I couldn’t have done it without you! I have met some wonderful people. I would also like to wish everyone a fantastic Christmas and a Fabulous New Year.
